How Rich is Jeff Bezos?
Jeff Bezos was previously named as the world’s richest man, with an estimated personal fortune and net worth of $157 billion US dollars.
As the former CEO and founder of global e-commerce and technical platform Amazon, Bezos is one of the world’s most famous American entrepreneurs.
Along with finding success as an internet entrepreneur, Bezos also has interests and investments in the media, venture capitalism and spaceflight.
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1964, Bezos showed a talent for engineering and computer science at an early age, graduating from the prestigious Princeton University and beginning his career on Wall Street in 1986.
It was during his time working on Wall Street that Bezos first came up with the idea for his company, a website that initially started out simply as an online bookstore. However, the site was so successful that soon it was also offering a variety of other services, including artificial intelligence, digital streaming services and cloud computing.
It currently now ranks as the largest online sales company in the world and is also the biggest provider of cloud infrastructure and other virtual assistant services too.
Not satisfied with founding and running one successful business, Bezos also branched out into aerospace manufacture, with his company Blue Origin first sending a vehicle into space back in 2015.
The current focus of Blue Origin is on human spaceflight, which is a similar point of interest for one of Bezos’s rivals to the richest man in the world title, fellow entrepreneurial individual, Elon Musk.
If successful, Blue Origin could take off in more ways than one, and see Bezos once again revolutionise the world with his innovative thinking and boundary breaking entrepreneurial skills. Bezos’s other prominent investment includes his purchase of The Washington Post, along with his own venture capital firm, Bezos Expeditions.
As one of the wealthiest men in modern history, Bezos is one of the first-ever centibillionaires as named by Forbes Magazine, with his personal fortune continuing to increase even when the world was in lockdown, with the Covid-19 pandemic seeing Bezos’s finances increase by an impressive $24 billion in 2020.
Although no longer the CEO of his most well-known company, Bezos continues to oversee the running of the business as executive chairman. With his many other investments, particularly in the fields of space travel and venture capitalism, it is likely that Bezos’s financial worth will only continue to increase.
