John Christopher Depp II was born on 9 June 1963 to John Christopher Depp, a civil engineer and waitress, Betty Sue Palmer (née Wells).

Although born in Kentucky, Depp spent the majority of his childhood growing up in the town of Miramar in Florida.

His parents divorced in 1978 when Depp was 15, not long after this, he dropped out of high school to pursue a music career as a rock musician. He joined a rock band called The Kids, but the band split up not long after relocated to Los Angeles.

Johnny Depp’s first screen appearance was in the 1984 horror movie A Nightmare on Elm Street. His big breakthrough though was landing the part of Tom Hanson in the TV series 21 Jump Street in 1987. Depp has since gone on to star in many movies, most notably, Edward Scissorhands and Pirates of the Caribbean.

He has previously been able to command more than $50 million per film and often earned more than $100 million per year. This has allowed Depp to build a $75 million property portfolio. He owns 14 homes in places that include Los Angeles, France and an island he owns in the Bahamas.

The future for the megastar is looking uncertain though, due in part to losing his libel case against the Sun newspaper that involved his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Depp has already been forced to quit his role of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts 3 film due to the lost libel case. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the film industry view him now and if it will lead to a lack of roles being offered to the actor.
